Terms of Service
Last updated July 31, 2026
1. Acceptance of these terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Bref (the "Service"), operated by Bref ("we," "us," "our"). By creating an account, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
2. What Bref does
Bref gives you a personal @mail.brefdigest.com address. Email newsletters you send or
subscribe to using that address are received, processed, and summarized using AI, and delivered back to
you as a single daily digest at a time you choose. Your original, unmodified newsletters remain
available to you in your dashboard. A sample digest, built entirely from fictional example newsletters
(clearly labeled as such), is shown to every new account so you can see what a digest looks like before
any of your own content arrives. Bref also publishes occasional product updates and articles on the
News page.
3. Your account
- You must provide accurate registration information and keep your password secure.
- You're responsible for all activity that happens under your account.
- You must be at least 16 years old to use Bref.
- One account per person. Don't share your bref address's credentials or resell access.
4. Free and Pro plans
Bref offers a Free plan (currently limited to 4 newsletters digested per day) and a paid Pro plan (currently $4.99/month plus any applicable tax, up to 25 newsletters digested per day) with additional customization, such as digest style and custom instructions. We may change plan pricing or features going forward; we'll give you reasonable notice before a price change takes effect for an existing subscription.
5. Billing, cancellation, and refunds
- Payment processing. Pro subscriptions are billed and processed by Stripe, our payment processor. Bref never sees or stores your full card number. Where legally required, applicable sales or use tax is calculated and collected automatically at checkout.
- Auto-renewal. Pro subscriptions renew automatically each month at the then-current price until you cancel.
- Failed or declined payments. If a renewal payment fails (for example, an expired card), Stripe automatically retries it over the following days. If it's still unresolved, your account is downgraded to the Free plan — nothing else about your account is affected, and you keep everything already stored in it.
- Canceling your subscription. You can cancel Pro anytime from Settings → Payments (or Stripe's billing portal). Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you keep Pro access until then, and you won't be charged again.
- Deleting your account. Deleting your account (also from Settings) cancels any active Pro subscription immediately rather than at period end, since there's no account left to bill.
- Refunds. We generally don't provide refunds or prorated credit for unused time, whether from cancellation, account deletion, or a downgrade. If you believe you were charged in error, contact us — refund requests are reviewed and granted at our discretion on a case-by-case basis.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use your bref address to receive anything other than newsletters and similar subscription email intended for you personally;
- Use the Service to send spam, harass anyone, or distribute unlawful, infringing, or harmful content;
- Attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the Service or other users' accounts or data;
- Use the contact form, digest feedback, or any part of the Service to submit false, abusive, or malicious content;
- Use the Service to receive, store, or redistribute newsletter content you aren't personally entitled to receive (for example, a paid subscription that isn't yours, or content behind a paywall you've bypassed);
- Republish, resell, or publicly redistribute digests or the newsletter content behind them — Bref is a personal productivity tool for your own use, not a syndication or republishing service;
- Use the Service in a way that violates any applicable law.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section.
7. Your content
You retain ownership of the newsletters and content that pass through your account. You grant us a limited license to process that content (including sending it to third-party AI and email providers, as described in our Privacy Policy) solely to provide the Service to you. We don't claim ownership of your newsletters, and we don't use your content to train AI models.
8. Newsletter senders, trademarks, and third-party content
Digests and citations may reference the names, logos, or brands of newsletters and publishers you subscribe to (for example, naming a source in a digest bullet). These references are purely descriptive — to tell you where a given piece of content came from — and don't imply any affiliation with, sponsorship by, or endorsement from those publishers. Trademarks and brand names remain the property of their respective owners.
Bref only receives, stores, and summarizes newsletters that you personally chose to forward or subscribe to at your own bref address, on your own initiative — the same way you could forward an email to your own inbox or read it in any email client. You're solely responsible for ensuring you have the right to receive and forward the content you route through Bref (for example, that a subscription you're forwarding is genuinely yours). Bref doesn't independently verify this and isn't responsible for content a user isn't entitled to send through the Service.
9. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Bref from any claim, damage, liability, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from: (a) your use of the Service; (b) content you send to, store in, or route through your bref address; (c) your violation of these Terms; or (d) your violation of any third party's rights, including a newsletter publisher's intellectual property rights.
10. Intellectual property complaints
If you believe content processed by Bref infringes your copyright, trademark, or other rights, contact us via the contact form with (1) a description of the work you believe is infringed, (2) the specific content on Bref you're flagging, and (3) your contact information. We'll investigate in good faith and may remove or restrict access to the content in question while we do.
11. Third-party services
Bref relies on third-party providers to operate — including Postmark (email delivery and receipt), Anthropic (AI summarization), and Stripe (payment processing). Your use of Bref is also subject to those providers' own terms where applicable to the services they perform on our behalf.
12. Termination
You can delete your account at any time from Settings; this permanently removes your digests, stored emails, and account data after a 30-day grace period. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, or discontinue the Service (or parts of it) at any time — where practical, we'll give you advance notice.
13. Disclaimers
The Service, including AI-generated summaries, is provided "as is." Digests are generated automatically and may occasionally omit, mischaracterize, or misattribute content from your original newsletters — always defer to the original newsletter (available in your dashboard) as the source of truth. Newsletter content you receive through Bref may include financial, investment, medical, legal, or other specialized information — nothing in a digest, and nothing Bref itself generates, is professional advice of any kind, and you're solely responsible for any action you take based on it. We work to keep the Service reliable and available, but we don't guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times, and we don't guarantee the accuracy of any third-party newsletter content we process. We're also not responsible for any delay or failure to perform caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control — including an outage or failure at a third-party provider we depend on (such as Anthropic, Postmark, Stripe, or Railway), internet or infrastructure failures, or other events of force majeure.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Bref will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, from any third-party newsletter content processed through your account, or from any claim covered by the indemnification section above. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.
15. Governing law and dispute resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
You and Bref agree to resolve any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service through binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court, except that either party may bring an individual claim in small claims court instead. There is no right to a jury trial, and disputes may only be brought on an individual basis — class actions, class arbitrations, and representative actions are not permitted. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing [email protected] within 30 days of first agreeing to these Terms; the rest of these Terms will still apply.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you (for example, by email or a notice on brefdigest.com) before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
